My friends and I traveled to Marrakech last weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday, enjoy some sun, cut the everyday routine and also to remind us that we are young and beautiful…Honestly, does one need a reason ?
Marrakech is only a 3 and a half hour flight from Paris (Flights operated from Paris with Royal Air Maroc, Air France, Easy Jet and in our case Ryan Air from Beauvais). It is located in the center of Morroco, surrounded by a palm grove.
The ancient city (Medina) has remained so typical, formed by meandering streets where losing your sense of direction is part of the game. (90% of tourists so it seems). The city is home to the best riads, hidden from the crowd, yet very central, entrances hardly noticeable from the street. We were staying at Riad Dar Saad, which proved to be a haven of peace.. Luxurious suites, amazing rooftop terrasse and terrific service at any time of the day (Go there !)
Marrachi move around the city in a lively mixture of genres.. You will for sure encounter some shopkeepers pulling their wagon full of fruits, pastries or live chickens… shift to the side for passing top of the range SUV playing loud music, meet with the most fashionable waiters and bartenders and yet it is impossible not to acknowleadge that many live with very little… Some will call it the city of paradoxes, some will look at it as progress at two speeds.. Up to you to make your mind.
Long story short, we had the time of our lives and here are a few things that you cannot miss : Visiting the Souk, Majorelle’s gardens, street food on Jemaa El Fna, indulding at the Hammam (we recommend Les bains de l’Alhambra), fruit juice on Café des Epices’ Rooftop at sunset and .. of course..for the party animals … (otherwise the picture would not be complete) : Pacha bar and club and Theatro (part of Marrakech casino) are the 2 scenes we enjoyed the most !
